“Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world,” celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the gaps that remain.
Summary:
The assembly started by an introduction to International Women’s day; the global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, marking a call to action for accelerating gender parity. This was followed by the introduction of influential and outspoken women, including but not limited to Michelle Obama, Angela Merkel, Christine Lagarde, Kamala Harris and Melinda Gates. Discussion then ensued, fixating on the ways we can honor and celebrate these women’s powerful attributions to the inclusion of women in the fields of life. Students and teachers present were asked to ponder on the individuals who make their lives easier, specifically the women behind their being, including mothers, sisters, teachers, cousins, and leaders. To familiarize the significance of this annual celebration, students were guided on ways to demonstrate their affection and admiration to the remarkable women in their lives. With the aid of platforms like Padlet and Quizizz, the assembly could sustain the student’s interest, sourcing interactive mediums of feedback and/or questions. Overall, this assembly succeeded in establishing an ominous appreciation for women and acquainting those present with our world’s most influential individuals.
